Robert "Lucky" Moore, 78, of Saint Helena Island, SC passed away on January 11, 2025 in Beaufort Memorial Hospital. Lucky was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 24, 1946 to the late Wilson Ross Moore and Betty Lou Roper Moore. Lucky graduated from Salisbury State College where he earned his varsity letter in athletics as the school mascot, Sammy the Seagull. He furthered his education at NYU earning his Master of Arts in Educational Theater. He studied Gifted and Talented Education at UCONN, and Administration and Supervision at Boston University. His first two years of teaching were at Centreville Elementary School. It was in the Centreville post office where he saw a Department of Defense Dependents Schools advertisement for teachers who wanted to travel the world. He immediately applied. Lucky began his career as a DoDDS teacher at Clark Air Force Base in Luzon, Philippines. He was then transferred to Germany where he served as teacher and mentor at bases in Heidelberg, Munich, and Bad Aibling. In 1993, Lucky was the first recipient of the DoDDs Teacher of the Year award. In Wiesbaden he served in an administrative capacity as Director of Student Academic Activities. He also served a year in England. Lucky was passionately involved with Gifted and Talented classes as well as numerous dramatic productions both as an actor and director. He built lasting relationships with colleagues and students that spanned continents, countries, and generations. During his time overseas, Lucky enjoyed extensively traveling the world. In 2016, Lucky retired and moved to St. Helena Island, SC. He quickly became involved in the community serving as a docent at the Beaufort Museum, and becoming a patron of the USCB Performing Arts program. He also supported the Beaufort Film Festival, Friends of the Library, and Friends of Hunting Island. Lucky will be missed by many around the world, but as he expressed many times, "I've had a good ride." Surviving Lucky are his two sisters, Rhoda Moore and Melinda Ellis. A niece, Amy Hamilton (Doug), a nephew, Dan Farlow (Jen), and a niece Amanda Lynch (Will). Seven great nieces and nephews, Bethany and Killian Johnson, Heather Lynn Hamilton, Wilson and Nate Farlow, and Jack and John Lynch. One great great niece, Katherine Johnson.
