Robert "Bob" Moore

Funeral services for Robert (Bob) Moore, age 94, of rural Knoxville will be Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at 11:00am at Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Melcher-Dallas.
Family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. A light lunch will be held following the service, for a time of continued visiting. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Columbia Fire Department and the Columbia United Methodist Church.
Interment will be at the Lincoln cemetery at a later date.
Bob Moore was born March 29, 1931, in Rose Hill, Iowa. He was one of 11 kids born to Myrl and Reva Moore. Growing up, he attended Cedar School in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He also made time away from his studies to help with the family farm, which he continued to do for the remainder of his life.
Bob met the love of his life, Leta Long, on a blind date. They later married each other on November 18, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Together they raised five wonderful children.
Family was important to Bob, and so was being a dedicated, hard worker. He worked at John Deere in Ankeny for 30 years and three months, before retiring. He was also a member of the UAW local 450 as a union steward.
Bob also loved working side-by-side his wife, Leta, out on the farm near Melcher. Growing crops, tending to the animals, and helping inside the house when he could. He especially loved caring for their garden and fruit trees.
Bob was very involved in his community, serving on the board of Melcher-Dallas Medical Center, and the Melcher-Dallas School Board. He was part of the New Hope United Methodist Church Board, during the time that Jerry Oliver was minister. Bob and Leta also attended the Dallas Christian church.
Square dancing was a favorite hobby for the couple, which they did for years with close friends. And many summers were spent at the family cabin in Minnesota, were the family would enjoy fishing, nature and spending time with each together. Bob and Leta were close with their neighbors at the lake, and considered them family, as well.
Bob and Leta enjoyed traveling and camping. They also enjoyed the quiet moments at the farmhouse, sitting under a tree watching the cows graze and the squirrels play. Or, sitting at the kitchen table and seeing how many birds they could identify outside the kitchen window.
There are many things Bob will be remembered for: His friendly smile, his welcoming hug, and the way he cared for Leta, especially in her final years. He was very charismatic and he loved spending time with family and friends, always ready to play card games, especially cribbage.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Leta in 2022; daughter, Paula, in 1979; daughters in law: Melinda Moore and Sherry Moore; grandson, Matthew Jordan; siblings: Dorothy Hait, Beverly Downard, Myrl Moore Jr., Betty Lou Hicks, Frank Moore, Max Moore, Harley Moore, and Shirley Moore.
Bob will be greatly missed by his children: Dan (Jan) Jordan, Bob (Janis) Moore Jr., Rodney (Marti) Moore, Jerry Moore, and Joe Moore; 10 grandchildren: Jeff (Stacy) Jordan, Melissa (Josh) Kennedy, Heather Jordan, Brienna Jordan, Judson (Heather) Moore, Alan Moore, Brandy Hardin, Lindsey (Matt) Caster, Cory Moore, and Luke (Alex) Moore; great-grandchildren: Jack, Grace, Ben, Jordyn, Addilyn, Shane, Connor, Eli, Karsen, Teaghan, Daxton, Marlie, Ryker, Kyler, Paislee, and Ayda; siblings: Bonnie Hait and Dwight Moore; along with many relatives and friends.
