Mary Ann was born on February 7, 1934, near Indianola in Warren County. She attended Indianola schools with the class of 1952. On October 16, 1954, she married James L. McCulley, and together they were blessed with four children: Jo Ann, John, Sharon, and Peggy. Mary and Jim began their life together on a dairy farm in Warren County.
A mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Mary lived for her family. She rarely missed a ball game or event, always there to cheer on the kids-no matter how big or small the occasion. Although she never had a driver's license, Mary was always ready to hop in for an adventure, whether it was a quick errand, a shopping trip, or grabbing a bite to eat.
Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, and she had quite the collection to show for it-especially when it came to Elvis memorabilia. A regular at bingo games, Mary enjoyed the excitement of the game and the joy of catching up with friends. She loved having a cup of coffee at D&S. A passionate photographer, she rarely left home without a camera, capturing memories at every turn.
Mary's feisty spirit, sense of fun, and deep love for her family will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her four children: Jo Ann McCulley, John McCulley, Sharon (Bob) Bingham, and Peggy Medlock; grandchildren: Sandy (Steve) Best, Kathy (Greg) Harrington, Andy (Astrid) Bingham, Billy Breuklander, Jeremy (Megan) Breuklander, Tony McCulley, Mary Smith, Paul (Christina) Smith, John McCulley Jr., and Rosemary McCulley; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Betty Feldbrugge, and Nellie Butler; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Howard Johnson, Walter Johnson, and Harriet Hildebrand.
