A Man of Faith, Love and Leadership

Robert Emil Muckle Sr.

April 1, 1931 – January 2, 2025

Robert Emil Muckle Sr., a lifelong resident of Waterbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025. He was 93 years old. Born on April 1, 1931, to the late Joseph and Agnes (Connelly) Muckle.

Bob was a proud graduate of Sacred Heart High School, where he excelled both academically and athletically. A gifted athlete, he was captain of the football team, a standout in track, and served as class president—a role that reflected his natural leadership and dedication. After graduating high school, Bob honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he returned to Waterbury and embarked on a lifelong career as a Central Office Technician at SNET, retiring in 1993. A man of deep convictions and a life rooted in faith, family, and community, Bob founded the Waterbury Chapter of Connecticut Right to Life, dedicating himself to advocating for the sanctity of life. Over the years, he served on the CT Right to Life state Board of Directors, holding positions as President and Vice President. For 40 years, he organized bus trips to Washington, D.C., for the March for Life. A devout Catholic, Bob was a dedicated parishioner of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. He was also a member of the Legion of Mary and spent decades teaching Natural Family Planning through the Couple to Couple League. Bob’s contributions to his parish and community were recognized with the Saint Joseph’s Medal of Appreciation for his outstanding service. In 2019, he was honored with the Maureen A. Donohoe Life Award from Carolyn’s Place, an organization that held a special place in his heart. Bob enjoyed camping, traveling, playing cards, and cheering for his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Known for his humility, kindness, and gentlemanly nature, he left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed.

Bob leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Grace, and their children: Robert E. Muckle Jr. (Marianne) of Wolcott; Joseph V. Muckle (Susan) of Madison; Diane Marino (Nick) of Kensington; and Paul A. Muckle (Maria) of Pittsburgh. A proud grandfather to Melissa Carter (Ryan), Emily Moore (Colin), Christopher Muckle, Andrew Muckle, Isabella Marino, Cole Marino, and Joseph Muckle, and great-grandfather to Adelyn, Liam, Jackson, and Teagan. He is also survived by many loving extended family members. Robert was predeceased by his siblings: Joseph Muckle, Marion Sprano, Thomas Muckle, and Frank Muckle.
