Robert "Bobby" Pearce Newman, a cherished resident of Baker, LA, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2025, at the age of 86, comforted by the love of his devoted family. He was called to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, after a life richly lived and deeply treasured.
Born on April 27, 1939, in the vibrant city of Kingston, Jamaica, to Albert and Ellen Eudith Newman, Bobby brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. He dedicated himself to his faith, serving as a faithful Deacon at Faith Baptist Church in Baker, LA. His unwavering faith was a beacon of light, guiding his actions and inspiring those around him. Bobby worked at the Baton Rouge General Mid-City for 48 years in the maintenance department. He was the life of the Boiler Room, known for his sense of humor.
Bobby's legacy lives on in the hearts of his beloved family. He is survived by his devoted wife of over 60 years, Olive Amelia Kirkwood Newman, whose companionship was a constant source of joy and strength. He was a loving father to his daughter, Wendy Newman Michelsen; sons, Robert "Robbie" Oliver Newman (Brenda) and Christopher "Chris" Albert Newman (Kristi). He was also a cherished grandfather to 4 grandchildren, Jessica Newman Woods (Jataylon), Veronica Newman Michelsen, Robert "Oliver" Newman, and Robert Newman Michelsen; and a great-grandchild, Zelda Woods; who brought immense happiness into his life. He is further survived by his dear brother, John Newman; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bobby is preceded in death by his father, Albert Pearce Newman, his mother, Ellen Eudith Kirkwood Newman, and his beloved sister, Grace Newman Bell; and brothers, Albert Newman, Arthur Newman, and David Newman.
Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, located at 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, on Saturday, August 23rd, 2025, from 9:00 AM until Christian Services at 11:00 AM. Brother Arnold Austin will officiate the service, a fitting tribute to Bobby's life and faith in Jesus. Following the service, the burial will take place at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, in Baker, Louisiana.
