Publish in a newspaper

Robert James O'Brien, 73 of Stella, NC, formerly from Canton, MA, affectionately known as Bobby to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, in Newport, NC, after a dignified battle with cancer.
Born on July 21, 1952, in Plymouth, NH, Bobby's life was marked by his unyielding love for his family, his profound work ethic, and a boundless passion for the great outdoors. Robert's Christian faith provided a compass for his life, guiding him through an incredible journey with his wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann O'Brien, (Morse, formally of Plymouth, NH), which stands as a testament to his commitment and adoration. Together, they raised a beautiful family, including their sons William and his wife Kim of Needham, MA, and Rob and his wife Katie of Emerald Isle, NC.
Bobby's journey began as the cherished son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth O'Brien. He grew up alongside his siblings Eugene and Joanne O'Brien of Canton, MA, Patty and Michael Doyle of Norton, MA, Jay and Patty of Paris, ME, Mary and Matt Kelly of Meadowview, VA, and Pamela and Mark Troiano of Campton, NH. The loss of his brother Billy and sister Karen O'Brien preceded his passing.
Graduating from Canton High School with the Class of 1970, Bobby laid the foundation for his future. His professional path led him to Hudson Distributors, where he became a proud member of Teamsters Local 259. Eventually, Bobby channeled his skills and ambition into a successful career as a General Contractor in the Morehead, NC area, where his reputation for quality and integrity grew strong.
He was a doting grandfather to Connor, Aidan, and Travis of Needham, MA and Gwen, Caroline, Matt, and Molly of Emerald Isle, NC, whom he loved with all his heart. Bobby's role as a family man extended to his adored grand dogs, who brought him immense joy and companionship.
Robert was known for his deep passion for the outdoors. He often joked that he worked primarily to support his love of hunting. He traveled extensively across North America on hunting expeditions. His great love for the outdoors also included time spent fishing and scuba diving. Robert also enjoyed relaxing on cruises and taking in new sights, embracing life's adventures with vigor and enthusiasm.
As we remember Robert James O'Brien, we celebrate a life that exemplified strength, love, and a zest for living. His legacy is etched in the hearts of those who knew him and in the natural world he so deeply revered. Bobby's spirit will continue to inspire us as we look to the majesty of the outdoors he so dearly loved. He will be profoundly missed, yet his memory will remain a guiding light for all whose lives he touched.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Saint Robert Bellamine Church, 198 Haggetts Pond Road, Andover, MA 01810 on Saturday, November, 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the lower church hall.
Burial will be private at a later date.
An expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
