Robert Omernik Obituary
Robert was born on April 15, 1939 in Stevens Point, WI to parents Barney and Alice (Komperda) Omernik. He attended local schools in Stevens Point and graduated from PJ Jacobs High School. Robert continued his education at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point with a degree in English. He next served in the Navy for two years before continuing his education at UW Oshkosh graduating with a Master's Degree in Library Science. Robert had many careers: he was an English teacher, high school librarian, worked for the local newspaper, and last worked as a medical office assistant.
His favorite past-times included: Polish folk dancing, hunting, mushroom picking, gambling, movies, discussing politics, and his annual Christmas display. Robert was best known in the community for the large annual Christmas display he decorated for over 20 years at his mother's former residence in Whiting, WI ending with Christmas 2011 because his mother's property was sold the following year.
He was preceded in death by his parents Barney Omernik (Father) and Alice Komperda (Mother).
Robert is survived by his siblings: Dolores (Edward) Prohaska, Rothschild, WI; Barbara (Leo) Meronek, Plover, WI; Mary (Richard) Malick, Naples, FL; Fred (Sue) Nicks, Detroit Lakes, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
