Robert "Bob" Omilian died on January 30, 2022. He was 76 years old. He was born on December 17, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan to parents Edward and Betty Omilian. Sadly, Bob's father died at an early age so Bob played and integral part in raising his younger brother, Jim.
Bob graduated from St. Ladislaus Catholic High School where he played varsity baseball all three years. His team made it to the state championship held at Tigers Stadium his junior and senior years. He graduated in 1962. Upon graduation, Bob started working for General Motors in the accounting department. He held several positions during his tenure and retired after 39 years of service.
In 1977 he met his future wife, Becky, when she started working at the same location. After dating for several years, they married in 1983 at St. George Orthodox Cathedral. Bob and Becky celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary this past September. Bob grew up in a Roman Catholic household but decided to convert to Eastern Orthodoxy after they were married. Bob continued serving at St. George as a member in good standing until the time of his death.
Bob was lucky enough to attend the Detroit Tiger Fantasy Baseball camp for 13 years where he established friendships with many, including former players from the 1968 and 1984 championship teams, some of whom he is still friends with today. He also enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He loved his muscle cars. He still owned his 1980 Camaro 228 which he purchased brand new. He loved "cruising" Woodward every summer in his classic car.
Bob was also a lover of animals. Bob & Becky rescued several dogs over the past 39 years. His current dog, Kiley, misses him already. Most of all, however, Bob loved his church, his family, and his friends – longtime and newly made. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed.
Bob is survived by his wife, Becky, brother Jim (Karen), sister-in-law Sharon Almeranti, and nephew Joe Almeranti. He was also blessed with many other "nieces", "nephews", godchildren, and friends who knew him as "Uncle Bob".
Visitation will be held at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home 1368 N. Crooks Road, Clawson, Michigan 48017 on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 from 4-8pm. A Saracusta will be at 7pm. A Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at 10am at St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, 18405 W Nine Mile Road, Southfield, MI 48075.
