Roberta G. Pourcho was born March 6, 1934 to William and Leona Wood in Sylvania, Ohio. She passed away peacefully on November 8, 2025. After growing up in Ohio, she attended the University of Michigan and graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry. She met Eugene (Gene) Pourcho at the University of Michigan and they were married on June 25, 19
55. They were married for 64 years until Gene passed away in 2019. They raised three children, Linda, Bill and Jim, together.
Roberta graduated with a PH.D in Anatomy from Wayne State University in 1972. She was a Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology in the Wayne State School of Medicine, teaching medical students and conducting biomedical research for over 35 years. She was highly respected by her colleagues and students and received many accolades and awards during her years as a professor.
Roberta was a woman of deep faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a student of the Bible and she and Gene hosted many Bible studies at their home. She lived her faith by loving friends and family well. She enjoyed God's creation. She liked trees, especially those in her own backyard. She was an avid birdwatcher and shared her knowledge and love of birds with her children and grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her parents and husband. She is survived by her three children: Linda (Craig) Rundle; Bill (Sandy) Pourcho; and Jim Pourcho; four grandsons; and 11 great-grandchildren.
At Roberta's request, a private family service will be held. She will be greatly missed.
