Thomas Frederick Schellmat

Thomas Frederick "Tom" Schellmat of Troy, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born on March 8, 1952, in Detroit to George and Lucille Schellmat, Tom grew up in Farmington and graduated from North Farmington High School in 1970. He attended community college and eventually went on to work for ADT, where he spent 20 years installing alarms and keeping people safe.
On March 17, 1995, Tom married the love of his life, Jackie, in Las Vegas. Together they shared many wonderful years of laughter, love, and adventure before her passing in June of 2021.
When not working, Tom loved traveling in his younger years and spending time at home with his family. He found joy in simple pleasures - casting a fishing line, tending to his garden, or cooking for his family. Whether it was his famous cheese omelettes, something hot off the grill, or his signature spaghetti, Tom loved bringing people together through food. His green thumb was legendary, and he took great pride in the vegetables he grew and shared.
A lifelong sports fan, Tom never missed a Lions game or a University of Michigan football Saturday. His enthusiasm for his teams was contagious and part of what made Saturdays and Sundays so memorable in his home.
Tom is survived by his children, Nick, Dylan, and Taylor; and his sisters, Sandy (Emil Rader) Schellmat, Katie Schellmat, and Wendy Baltes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Jackie.
A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a celebration of life at 3:00 p.m., at Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., Clawson, MI 48017.
