It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carmelo Quiton Tibus, age 16, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Born on April 2, 2009, in Novi, Michigan, Carmelo was the beloved son of Richard and Rebecca (Surowiec) Tibus. He had a quiet presence that gently lit up the room and a steady warmth that brought comfort to every heart he touched. Carmelo had just completed his sophomore year at North Farmington High School, where he was a dedicated student and an active member of the Lacrosse team. His athleticism was matched only by his artistry and emotional depth-gifts he freely shared with those around him. To know Carmelo was to experience the rarest form of kindness. He was loving, funny, empathetic, thoughtful and wise beyond his years-the kind of person who instinctively knew when someone needed a smile. His generosity was quiet but constant, his perception sharp and intuitive, and his spirit truly one-of-a-kind. Friends often described him as "a friend to everyone," and he lived that role with genuine sincerity and heart. Whether he was helping a classmate, creating something beautiful, or showing up for a teammate, Carmelo led with love. His laughter, creativity, and depth of heart will be remembered always by the many who were fortunate enough to call him son, brother, friend, or teammate. Carmelo is survived by his mother Rebecca (Vic Matul) Tibus; father, Richard (Amanda) Tibus; sisters, Isabela and Eleanor; stepsiblings, V.J., Haley, Griffin, Cooper and Ryker; grandparents, Carmela Surowiec, Sylvia Matul, Teri Scheffler, G. Neal Scheffler, Shawn Tibus, Julie Tibus, Rudolph Tamborino and Mary Ann Tamborino; and numerous LOVING aunts, uncles and cousins, teammates and friends. Carmelo was welcomed into heaven by his grandfather, Stanley Surowiec. great Grandfathers Albert Surowiec, Carmelo Pisani, and Joseph Edmund Tibus, and his great grandmothers, Audrey Pisani, Helen Surowiec, Alda Quiton and Barbara (Tibus) Brice, who passed before him. Carmelo's family will receive guests on Tuesday, June 24, from 1-5 pm, at the Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home, downtown Farmington. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, June 24, from 6-8 pm, with 7 pm Prayers and Remembrances, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington (click HERE for the livestream of this service). In lieu of flowers, Carmelo's family invites you to honor his memory with a donation to a cause he loved-the Farmington United Boys Lacrosse program.
