Robert "Bob" L. Payne age 76 of Perham, MN, died Monday, January 29, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
Robert was born on September 2, 1947 to George and Rosa (Gaul) Payne in Wadena, Minnesota. He graduated from Verndale High School in 1966. Shortly after graduating, Bob joined the United States Army spending part of his service time in Germany operating transportation vehicles. He served until his honorable discharge in 1968.
On April 14, 1979, Bob was united in marriage to Rose Barland in Staples, MN. The couple made the Staples area their home for many years and spent eight years on Long Lake in Vergas before retiring to Perham.
Known as a jack of all trades, Bob had several professions in his life that he enjoyed. He spent several years working in law enforcement in Wadena and Todd Counties as a deputy sheriff, drove truck, assisted with cleaning lake access points, and drove school bus for many years in Staples, Motley, Detroit Lakes and Perham.
When he wasn't working and while enjoying retirement, Bob could be found on his snowmobile or planning the next camping trip. He also enjoyed hunting, going to concerts and festivals like WE Fest, and after retiring, enjoyed going to the casino to play or watch a show.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and will be missed by those he leaves behind.
Surviving him are his wife, Rose Payne; daughters, Amanda (Robert) Weippert and Shelly Harlow; grandchildren, Haley (Conrad) Otterstetter, Dillon Harlow, and Kolby Tabatt; great grandchildren, Leroy Otterstetter and Kye Harlow; and two brothers. Preceding Bob in death are his parents, George and Rosa Payne; and brother, Wilbur Payne.
A Memorial Service will be held at Schoeneberger Funeral and Cremation Service in Perham at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024. Visitation will be one hour prior.
