Robert M. Piñon, age 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 1, 2024 in El Paso, Texas. He was born in El Paso, TX and graduated from Cathedral High School, Class of 1962. He pursued studies in engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso and earned an Associate’s Degree from El Paso Community College. Robert served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War as a Radarman (RD3), Petty Officer Third Class. He was proud of his service on the USS Vega AF-59 and demonstrated exceptional dedication and bravery.
Robert worked for over 30 years in the telecommunications industry and had the opportunity to travel around the world during his career. He was a wonderful husband, father, son, and brother, and he will be greatly missed. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Elfego Piñon, Sr. and Tomasa Martinez; his beloved wife, Luz Alicia Piñon; his daughter, Jennifer Carrillo; and his brother, Elfego Piñon, Jr. He missed his wife, Alicia, dearly in all the years after her passing.
Robert is survived by his daughters, Denise Piñon Carrejo (David) and Tessa Monique Piñon; and his sisters, Gloria Deas (Bernard Jr., deceased), Graciela Piñon (Charles), and Luana Piñon (Roger). He is also survived by many extended family members and friends who cherish and honor his memory.
In his spare time, Robert enjoyed working on cars, collecting radios, computers, and flashlights, and shopping at swap meets. He looked forward to spending time with his brother and sisters, when they all made each other laugh. He taught his daughters how to play chess and supported his daughters’ extracurricular activities including, band, orchestra, and science fairs. Most importantly, he encouraged his three daughters’ pursuit of higher education, despite that it took them outside of El Paso.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes-West with a Holy Rosary to commence at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1551 Belvidere St. A Graveside Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson Ave.
Pallbearers will include Tessa Piñon, David Carrejo, Guy Forisha, Adam Cruz, Charles Roybal, and Roger Ortiz.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-West, 480 N. Resler Dr., El Paso, TX, 79912.
