Robert Pravecek, age 86 of Scotland passed away Monday, May 26, 2025 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton.
Visitation is 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. wake, Friday, May 30 at St. George Catholic Church in Scotland. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31 at St. George with celebrant Fr. Thi Pham. Inurnment will be at St. George Catholic Cemetery, Scotland.
Robert was born April 18, 1939 to Emil and Helen (Anderson) Pravecek on the family farm. He was such a tiny baby, that his parents used a dresser drawer for his bassinet. Robert attended Geishert District country school through the eighth grade and then Scotland High School. Robert left school to help out on the farm.
Robert married Georgianne Podzimek May 10, 1960 at St. Leo Catholic Church in Tyndall. Together they farmed and raised their son, Michael. Bob was a hard worker but was never too busy to help others, especially his neighbors. Robert and Georgianne moved to town in the early 1990s. Since he was not quite ready to retire, Robert went to work for Ray Diede at Scotland Redi-Mix. He drove truck for nearly eight years before retirement.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Georgianne; son, Michael Pravecek (Karen Heida); grandchildren, Gavin (Jessica) Pravecek and Rachel (Logan) Tycz; great-grandchildren, Ava and Gavin Jr. Pravecek, Jaxyn, Jaidyn and Kasyn Tycz and brother-in-law, Frank Burke Jr.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Helen; sisters, Joan (Duane) Rothschadl and Faye Burke.
