Robert V. Purney, age 88, of Clay Center, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg.
He was born on October 14, 1937, in Clay Center, Ohio, to Vincent and Eleanor (Zunk) Purney. Bob was a proud graduate of Genoa High School, Class of 1957. He honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
On November 30, 1963, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Stoner, with whom he shared many devoted years. Bob was employed as a machine operator with Doehler Jarvis for over 30 years, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
A man of deep faith, Bob was a lifelong member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Clay Center, serving faithfully until its closing on April 26, 2015. He later attended Lakewood Church, continuing his commitment to worship and service. He was a devoted church volunteer throughout his life.
Bob also gave generously to his community, serving for many years on the Clay Center Village Council and as mayor for 12 years. He found great joy in traveling with his family, proudly visiting 46 states, and cherished time spent at family gatherings, especially during the holidays. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kathy; children, Leeann (Michael) Weidner and Troy (Pam) Purney; grandchildren, Lexi (Chad) Siegler, Kayli (Nathan) Hursh, Cody Buckner, Tyler Purney, Christie Weidner, Craig Weidner, and Brandon Weidner; great-grandchildren, Mason, Aubree, Ally, Mia, Carter, Landyn, Remi, Korra, and Dexter; siblings, Raymond (Barbara) Purney and Arlene (Patrick) Murphy; sister-in-law, Carol Purney; along with many loving family members and friends.
