Robert Lee Purvine, lovingly know as Bob or Pops was born in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on January 27, 1941. He lived a life filled with love, joy, and cherished memories. He fought a valiant fight to the very end and sadly passed away on January 20, 2025.
Bob was a red-head, freckled face boy and stories may reveal he might have been a little mischievous. He participated in many sports growing up and graduated from Okmulgee High School. After high school, Bob attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College for a year and then took classes to earn a drafting degree at Okmulgee Tech.
He then moved to Indiana and took a job at Pure Oil to save additional money to finish his schooling. Pure Oil is where he met a brown hair, blue eyed beauty name Sandy. He asked her out many times, but she quickly turned him down. Due to his resilience and persistence, she finally accepted a date to play miniature golf. That is all it took, and he was happily married to the love of his life for 62 years.
Bob was a hard worker with a strong work ethic. They moved back to Okmulgee a couple days after they were married so he could finish his drafting degree. He then landed a job with DX Oil as a draftsman and began their family. Over the next few years, the family moved to Indiana and Tennessee as Bob took a position at Skelley Oil as a project manager.
The family made their final move to
Moore, Oklahoma where Bob changed occupations to work in the trucking industry. He was a faithful employee at LeeWay, Transcon, and Consolidated Freight and retired after 30 years of service.
Sports has been a huge part of the picture for the Purvine family. Bob especially enjoyed coaching his sons little league football teams. He also supported the boys playing baseball and wrestling. He was proud of his girl's playing softball and basketball. After the kids were out of school, Bob continued his love for sports by umpiring at the Moore Ball Park and was also a faithful member of the Moore Lion's chain gang for the Friday night football games.
While the kids were growing up, Bob enjoyed taking the family on vacations to the lake. They enjoyed boating, skiing, tubing, and fishing. He always knew the best place to put a trot line. The family has many fond memories and stories of these adventures.
Bob enjoyed the simple pleasures of life-playing golf, solving jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and tackling Sudoku challenges. Over the past couple years, jigsaw puzzles had become a staple on the kitchen table. When you stopped by the house it was his expectation for each person to pitch in by adding a couple pieces. If you were there when the last piece was added, your picture was taken with him and the puzzle. He had quite a puzzle collection.
A dedicated fan of Thunder basketball, the Chicago Cubs, and Dallas Cowboys, Bob shared his passion for sports with those around him. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Moore for many decades and especially loved the Christmas candlelight service. Bob also had a knack for finding joy in everyday moments, whether through his love of couponing or the special bond he shared with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He loved them dearly and looked forward to attending their activities.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Purvine, and his children: Beth Harrison (James), Michael Purvine (Tonya), Joseph Purvine (Mary Beth), Bobbi Aud (Mark), and Mindy Nava (Adan). He leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by his 15 grandchildren: Allison Milford (Cory), Tyler Harrison (Caity), Baity Higgins (Ian), Hunter Purvine (Mackenzie), Jacyln Purvine, Walker Purvine, Dru Dawson, Victoria Cooper (Cameron), Raegan Purvine, Tucker Purvine, Cade Purvine, Joshua Clay, Jacob Clay, Joseph Clay and Mason Aud and 4 great-grandchildren: Maddox Milford, Josslyn Cooper, Luca Purvine and Maverick Milford along with many other special relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Elizabeth and Wesley A. Purvine, his siblings, Jerry Purvine and Glenda Gardener and granddaughter, Madison Purvine.
