Robert James Quail III – A Loving Husband, Son, Father, Stepfather, Brother, Grandpa, Uncle and a cherished Friend to many.
With a heart full of love, patience, and kindness, Robert touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He was one of the most caring and compassionate men, always willing to lend a hand, offer words of wisdom, and share in life's joys and challenges. His presence brought warmth and comfort, and his love for his family was boundless.
Robert and the love of his life, Kris Quail, were married for 44 wonderful years. Their love was a beautiful testament to devotion, partnership, and unwavering support. He cherished his family more than anything and was always quick to help whenever and wherever he could, always placing their happiness and well-being at the center of his world. He was the kind of person who showed up-ready to help, to listen, and to share in life's joys and challenges.
Born on May 14, 1943, in Washington, D.C., Robert (known as Bob) was the first of seven children, welcomed into the loving arms of his parents, Robert Jr. and Vera Quail. He was a devoted brother to John (Barbara) Quail, Linda Whiteman, the late Sharon Moore, Janet Hale, the late Thomas Quail, Brad (Suzette) Quail, and sister-in-law Ann (Larry) Coleman.
Bob's greatest joy was his family. He was a proud father to Wendy (Dan) Yoskovich, Nancy (the late Kurt) Hartung, and Robert Quail IV, from his first marriage to Carol (Holmes) Hassberger. When he married Kris Quail, he embraced the role of stepfather with love, becoming a guiding presence in the lives of Holly (Randy) Romain and Michael Myke. Together, Bob and Kris shared the immense joy of raising their son, the late Brian Quail. His love extended to his grandchildren, Elayna Yoskovich, David Yoskovich, Matthew Hartung, Mackenzie Quail, Felicity Quail, Robert Quail V, Claire Nelson, and Evelyn Nelson, all of whom he adored. Bob was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews, who will forever hold dear the memories of his warmth and wisdom.
After graduating from Seaholm High School in 1961, Bob pursued his education at Western University, while serving in the Naval Reserves. He graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering on June 12, 1965, and married his childhood sweetheart, Carol. That same year, Robert went on active duty in the U.S. Navy. His service took him to California's Point Mugu. aboard the USS Saint Paul and was deployed off the coast of Vietnam. Rising quickly through the ranks, Bob was promoted to LTJG in 1966 and was honored with the National Defense Ribbon and the Vietnam Service Ribbon for his dedicated service.
Returning to Michigan, Robert pursued his passion for law at the University of Detroit Mercy College of Law. While there, he was honored with an invitation to join the staff of the Journal of Urban Law. In 1974, he graduated with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree, and in July 1974, he fulfilled his dream of joining his cousin's law firm and establishing Zabel, Zabel & Quail, P.C. which changed to Zabel, Quail & Ryan, P.C. a few years later. With unwavering integrity and passion, he dedicated his career to serving his clients and community for the next 49 years.
Beyond his professional success, Bob's true legacy was the love he cultivated within his family. He and his siblings held family reunions and Christmas Eve traditions close to their hearts, ensuring these moments of togetherness were passed down for generations to come. These treasured memories, filled with laughter, love, and warmth, will never be forgotten, and the traditions he so lovingly nurtured will continue to live on.
Bob's kindness, patience, and unwavering love made the world a better place. His presence was a gift, his heart was full of generosity, and his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and cherished him.
