Stephen L. Pelzel

Stephen Pelzel, a longtime resident of Sterling Heights, Michigan, passed away on August 22, 2025, in Troy, Michigan, at the age of 81.

He was born on April 10, 1944, in Vesta, Minnesota, to the late William and Marie Pelzel. On June 6, 1964, he married his beloved wife, Gail, in St. Clair Shores, beginning a loving marriage that spanned 61 years.

Stephen was the devoted father of Dawn Gargano (Aldo), Scott Pelzel (Luciana), Michelle Kulhavi (John), and Jennifer Vonzittwitz (Karl). He was a proud grandfather of Alyssa, Amanda, Madison, Lucas, Gabriella, Mackenzie, Andrew, and the late Justin, and a cherished great-grandfather of Lainey and Elouise. He is also survived by his sisters, Jean Frost and Kathleen Buyle, and was preceded in death by four siblings. He was the caring dog grandpa of Jilly, Zanja, and Mimi.

For 42 years, Stephen dedicated his career to General Motors, working in Quality Control.

Outside of work, he was a man of many passions. He was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, enjoyed college football, and loved playing euchre-especially during family card parties. In his younger years, he spent time hunting and fishing, pursuits that brought him great joy.

Family will receive friends Friday, September 5, 2025 from 3-8PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home – Price Chapel, 3725 Rochester Road (between Big Beaver & Wattles).

A Funeral Service will take place Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11AM at the funeral home.

Stephen will be laid to rest at Resurrection Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Stephen's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
