Bob 'Rock' Rakow, 86, Weston passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, February 26th, 2025 at Renaissance Assisted Living-Weston under the care of St Croix Hospice after a short illness. He was born on June 12th, 1938 in Wausau, WI, the son of the late Herman & Corra (Trantow) Rakow. He graduated from Wausau High School in 1956 and from Carroll College in Waukesha in 1960. After a short term of service in the US Army, he went to work for the Marathon Division of American Can. He worked at Marathon for five years where he met his wife Jan who passed away in June 2023, just shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married on September 28, 1963 in Neenah. Bob and Jan lived in Neenah, Atlanta, GA, Philadelphia, PA, and Weston, WI. They also enjoyed 23 winters in Destin FL where they established another set of deep, lasting friendships. They have two sons, Kevin in Chicago and Jim in Bloomington, MN. Bob was a devoted father and always put his family first. Despite working many long hours as Facilities Manager for Wausau Insurance, he was active in his children's school activities and was one of the founders of the DCE Everest flag football program. He served on the DC Everest school board and the Weston village board. He was also a devoted grandfather. Bob enjoyed sports, especially football which he played in high school and college. Later in life he enjoyed traveling, skiing, bowling, outdoor activities at their cabin just north of Wausau and doing things with the family. Bob is survived by his two sons Kevin and Jim, Jim's wife Holly, their two children Adam and Ally Rakow, sister June Urbanek in Kearney, NE and seven nieces and nephews.
A joint Funeral Service for both Bob and Jan will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Covenant Community Presbyterian Church (1806 Weston Ave, Schofield, WI 54476) per their wishes. Pastor Jess Wakefield will officiate. Visitation will be held on Saturday June 7, 2025 from 9:30 am until the hour of Service at the church. Burial Will be on Monday June 9, 2025 at Restlawn Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to St. Croix Hospice and the staff at Renaissance Assisted Living-Weston for the care Bob received in his final days.
