Robert Ranson Obituary
With deep sadness, we share the passing of Robert L. Ranson, Sr. of Media, PA. Born Feb. 4, 1941, he passed peacefully on March 4, surrounded by the greatest joy of his life: his family. Bob lived fully for 84 wonderful years, kindly and with endless generosity for others. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Ernestine. He was a loving father to his son Robert L. Ranson Jr., husband of Barbara (Enck) Ranson of Oxford, MD, and he deeply loved his grandchildren Emily Jane Ranson and Robert L. Ranson, III. He is also survived by his brothers, James and David, and his sister, Ruby (Quillen), and his many nieces and nephews and their children. A celebration of life will held at the J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home in Media, PA, on March 13, with visitation from 10:00 AM and a memorial service to follow beginning at 11:00 AM. Bob graduated from Williamson Trade School's Painting and Decorating shop in 1961 and made a lifelong career using the skills he learned. As a young man, he served in the Delaware National Guard from 1964 until 1972. Bob was known as a storyteller, weaving jokes, not always skillfully but usually with hilarity into every conversation. Always a gentleman, he paid compliments frequently, and his strongest language was "Doggonit!" He loved sharing warm moments with many, often over wine, which was always selected especially for someone. Golf, a favorite pastime and passion, resulted in an amateur championship win in Chester County, PA. He talked of this milestone, and few in his circle escaped watching the video of this achievement. He was the consummate competitor, beginning in trade school and throughout his life, whether it was horseshoe, card and board games, or backyard softball. Bob particularly loved playing pinochle, a family tradition since his youth, with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. He was a keen observer of people and was known to bestow nicknames, nearly always complimentary, on friends and loved ones. Bob cherished everyone in his life and always, no matter when or where made those around him feel welcome and loved. Condolences:jnelsonrigbyfh.com
