VIRGINIA BEACH - Robert Earl Raper Sr. (Aka, Bob, Will or Willie) departed his life at home with his family on September 28, 2025. He was a devoted and faithful husband, father, grandfather and soon to be great grand father. He is now at rest in the presence of our Lord.

Robert was born March 23, 1935, in Norfolk, VA.

Upon graduation from Maury high school, he enlisted in the Naval Air Reserve and was on a P2-V aircraft, serving 2 years. He later enlisted in the Army being sent to Boot Camp at Fort Knox, then onto Fort Bliss. Receiving his honorable discharge, Robert continued to serve his country in the reserves. He served in the National Guard Air Defense unit, and later the National Guard field artillary unit, serving a total of 8 years in the reserves.

Willie attended The College of William and Mary at Norfolk and graduated with his business degree in Accounting. It was while attending college that Willie met the love of his life, Marie Fales, whom he was quick to share that she was a former Miss Norfolk. The couple married in July 1960, sharing a full and wonderful life of 65 years together. Graduating from William & Mary, they continued to live in Norfolk where Bob began to practice as a CPA with Frederick B. Hill & Co. where he served for a number of years as the managing partner. The highlight of his career was his tenure as the president of The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. He was instrumental in the merging of F.B. Hill and Company with Cherry Bekaert and Holland. For some years after his retirement from Cherry, Bekaert, and Holland, he enjoyed working with those who liked to consult with him.

Bob was an active member in his church, First Baptist Church of Norfolk and served on the finance committee.

Will is survived by his wife, Marie F. Raper; a son Rob Jr (Terese), and 3 daughters Yardley Kush (Ted), Barclay Eley (Kent), Ashley Starr (Todd); grandchildren, Braxton (Raven), Brahn, Brynley, Jonah, Zachary, India, and Daisy Merchant.

He was an upbeat man of Godly wisdom and conviction. He was known to hold court with his grandchildren, slipping them some "WAM"(walking around money), before they went home.

Our dad was respected for his integrity, faith and steadfastness, a man of his word. His quick whit caused laughter for everyone who came in contact with him. He was an inspiring witness for how to live, never wavering in his resolve that God has been good to him and Jesus saved him, nor in his love and devotion for his beloved Marie.

A graveside service was conducted on Friday for the family and officiated by his nephew Randy DuVall.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com.
