Robert John Ratliff

ROBERT JOHN "CATFISH ROB" RATLIFF, 63, of Bandy, VA, formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Friday, November 21, 2025, at his home following an extended illness. Born in Grundy, VA, he was the son of the late Glenn Deek Ratliff Jr. and Lillie Mae (Clevinger) Ratliff. He was a longtime resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Harman Freewill Baptist Church. "Catfish Rob" was an avid fisherman and hunter and participated in IWA Virtual Wrestling League. In his younger years, he loved to rabbit hunt with beagles he raised and participated in fishing tournaments. He enjoyed helping in the Grundy community area before moving to Bandy. Rob lived with Chrohn's Disease, Leukemia and Kidney Disease for many years. Doctors told him in his 20s he was a walking miracle.
Rob loved his dog, Sassy, for many years and she was his sidekick. He treated his nieces and nephews more like grandchildren than nieces and nephews. Always spending time with them and going to the boys' sports events when not fishing and hunting with them and Tim.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ava Gay Viers.
Those left to cherish his memory include his sister, Sarah (Timothy) Lawson and her children: Madison Swain, Amelia Lester, T.J. Lawson, Xavier Lester, Kayleigh Lawson and Elaina Lawson; sister, Elizabeth (Bill) Slone and children: Tanika (Jermaine) Estep (kids Jaxon and Jordyn), Makala (Colby) Little (kids Jase and Kaybri), Alyssa Slone (child Layla Estep).
Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
