Robert "Bob" Rhodes, 85, passed away Friday March 15, 2024 after a brief battle with cancer in Deming, New Mexico.
He was born February 8, 1939 in Kansas City, Kansas to Ruth and O.G. Rhodes. Bob grew up in Bonner Springs, Kansas where he attended Rural High School. He played basketball for the Braves and graduated in 1957. Bob entered the Navy on February 13, 1958 and went into the reserves in 1962 and left the Navy in 1964. Bob loved being a cowboy. He enjoyed working with horses in his early years. He helped with 4-H and ran the Spotted R Ranch. Upon retirement from FAA and horse ranching he moved to Deming, New Mexico in 1989. He wanted warmer weather and fewer people than the front range of Colorado. He and his wife Dee took up the hobby of silversmithing beautiful silver and turquoise jewelry. They loved traveling around and doing trade shows to sell their jewelry. Bob had a love for his kids. They always held a special place in his life. You could always count on seeing Bob with a hat on his head and cowboy boots on his feet.
He is survived by his two children Barry (Mary) Rhodes and Diane (Kieth) Bainer; his step-children Gayle and Scott, Alton, Eugene, Ginny, and Cheri; his many grandchildren and one great grandchild. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Dee, his parents, one step-son and one grandson.
His family will be holding a private memorial for Bob in Deming, New Mexico. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Mimbres Crematory.
