Robert “Cholo” was a lifelong native of New Iberia. He grew up on his parents’ 90-acre sugar cane farm, working before and after school. The family also farmed a variety of fruits & vegetables. He retired from Avery Island Salt Mine after an injury, drove a school bus for Iberia Parish, and was a concrete construction foreman. After retiring from concrete construction, he went back to his roots of farming - - but this time for fun. He loved being challenged to grow the “biggest” of any variety, then he would give it away. He loved sharing what he grew. “Cholo” also loved his family history and sharing that knowledge with everyone to identify family relationships.
Robert “Cholo” leaves to cherish his memory and in God’s care, his wife of 62 years, Mildred Labbe Broussard; Children: Carla Broussard-Scher (Jonathan) of Lafayette, R. Richard Broussard, Jr. (Monica) of New Iberia, Suzanne Thibodeaux (Shep) of Youngsville, and Monique Broussard of New Iberia.
Grandchildren: Tiffany Thomas Bayuelo (Luis “Pipe”), Shaye Thibodeaux, Niall Broussard (Alexis), Seighan Thibodeaux; Great-Grandchildren: Logan Legendre, Mateo Bayuelo, Theo Broussard; Honorary Grandchildren: Addyson & Karson Haycock;
