Robert Dennis Rickles, age 79, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025. Born on May 22, 1946, in Griffin, Georgia, Robert lived a life marked by service, strength, and deep devotion to family.
A proud graduate of Albany High School in Albany, GA, Robert went on to serve his country with distinction in the United States Coast Guard, retiring as a Master Chief after 21 years of honorable service. His military career included two tours in Vietnam, where he earned a Purple Heart and numerous other commendations. During his time in service, he also served as Chief of Police and had the distinguished honor of protecting Presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
After retiring from the military, Robert channeled his leadership and entrepreneurial spirit into owning and operating both a motel and a bar, becoming a respected figure in his community.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Jasper Rickles and Geraldine Freeman, and his stepson Harold “Ricky” Tisdale.
He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca Rickles, daughter Amanda Rickles (James); stepsons Donald “Greg” Tisdale Sr. (Michelle) and Christopher Dale Tisdale (Melissa); grandchildren Dante Rickles, Savannah Hooks, Aiden Hooks, Ashley (Aaron) Smith, Amanda Tisdale, Tony Tisdale, Greg Tisdale, and Madison Tisdale; and a host of great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy.
Robert will be remembered for his love of baseball, his passion for sharing old war stories, and the cherished moments he spent with his family. His legacy of courage, humor, and unwavering dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service to honor Robert’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Biloxi National Cemetery.
