Robert Allen Rivenes passed away at the age of 97 on October 4, 2025, just 13 days after his beloved wife, Pat. Born on September 20, 1928 in Oak Park, Illinois to Alf and Elvira Rivenes, Bob loved to brag to everyone that he had lived in four different houses on Euclid Ave, not to mention two others in Oak Park. After graduating from Oak Park-River Forest High School in 1946, Bob spent two years at Montana State before graduating from Northwestern University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. From 1951-1953, he served in the Signal Corp in New Jersey during the Korean War. In 1954, Bob married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia Hillborn, and spent his career working for the Bell Systems and AT&T, while moving back and forth between Illinois and New Jersey. In 1988, Bob and Pat retired to Sebring, Florida to a life they truly loved, until 2023 when they moved to The Woodlands, Texas for health reasons to be near family.
Bob loved movies, Disney World and playing golf, and he was known for his sense of humor. He and Pat were members of the Episcopal Church in all their residences, along with a few years at Atonement Lutheran in Sebring.
Much loved by his family and many friends, Bob was predeceased by his wife, Patricia, his sister, Carol (Jerry), his daughter, Cynthia and sons-in-law Gerry and John. He is survived by his brother Donald (Barbara), son, Robert, Jr. (Susan), daughters Susan (Mark) and Carolyn, granddaughter Katherine (Brian), grandsons Peter, William (Maclean), Samuel, Kevin (Jamie), Robert (Bayan), Daniel, James, and great-grandchildren Abigail, Eleanor, Lucas, and Evelyn.
A service for Pat and Bob will be held on November 2 at 1:30 pm at Christ Church in Shrewsbury, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Church Shrewsbury in their memory.
