Norman Gary Hobbs, born October 1, 1940, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones in Conroe, Texas, on September 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, perseverance, and love for his family. He is survived by his devoted wife whom he was with for 60 years, Gaye Ann Hobbs; his daughters, Tracy Lynn Hobbs and her husband Stephen Rademaker, and Carey Hobbs Sullivan and her husband Joseph Sullivan. His family will forever cherish his memory.
Gary's academic and professional journey reflected his remarkable intellect and drive. He attended Virginia Tech, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering and proudly served in the Corps of Cadets. He later received his master's degree in petroleum engineering and geology from the University of Houston. His career was marked by a deep commitment to excellence, innovation, and problem-solving.
During his decades in the oil and gas industry, Gary managed the design and construction of offshore production platforms that pushed the boundaries of engineering. He retired as General Manager over the Gulf of Mexico for Enterprise Products, closing his career as a respected leader known for his vision, technical expertise, and ability to inspire those he worked with.
Beyond his professional achievements, Gary had a lifelong love for sports. He held weight lifting records and participated in tennis and city softball leagues as well as playing basketball and racquetball. He began his career in football at the semi-pro team level and went on to sign with the Detroit Lions in 1966, an achievement that spoke to his courage, discipline, and unyielding spirit. In later years, his passion for athletics lived on through the game of golf. He found joy on the course, building friendships, sharing laughs, and embracing the challenges and rewards of the sport.
Above all, Gary will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend whose quiet strength and steadfast heart provided a foundation for those around him. His family and friends take comfort in the countless memories and the enduring influence of a life well lived.
