My older brother Gene was always an early riser. He would get up so early in the morning and make a big pot of cream of rice or wheat or the occasional oatmeal that I still love dearly. By the time I made it out of bed the hot cereal and pretty much morphed into a giant lump. Not tasty, but not motive enough for me to get up any earlier than necessary. Being the early bird continued throughout his life and he was always the first in the morning to rub it in that I was getting old every birthday which for me fell on the 7th of January. This year I heard my phone ping on an early Sunday morning and thought for sure it was Gene razzing me again about my old age, but unfortunately it was dear Sandy, alerting me that Gene´s time was coming to a close and rather quickly. I think he timed his departure around my birthday on purpose lol as we were always very competitive with each other. I will never forget the blessing he gave me in my late teens one night when I was suffering from a very abscessed tooth. It was late in the night and I was in too much pain to sleep. Gene came home and saw me in distress. He anointed and blessed be and I felt absolutely no pain afterward and had the tooth fixed the next morning. Gene, I miss you terribly and would give anything to see you again, and even hear one of your dreadfully bad jokes!! Love you forever brother!

Gene´s last conversation with me was him telling me how much it meant to him that I asked him to walk me down the aisle at my wedding. Gene is the oldest boy and my father had already passed away. Gene took the role of giving me away with honor
This memory is forever with me. He loved me, and I loved him in the way a sister would. Gene would always say "your old, older brother loves you little sister ".
As a young lady he mentored me and loved me as I needed. For this I am grateful. I give it to God and pray for peace and healing for my mother Claire Rolfe, his wife, Sandy Rolfe and their children and grandchildren. Gene was a proud father and grandfather and he adored his wife and loved his mother dearly. He will be missed especially his corny laughter and really bad jokes
