Robert B. Rothe, 92, of Windsor Locks, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2025. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on September 7, 1932, Bob learned early in life that the key to happiness and success was to keep busy and work hard.
After graduating from Rockville High, he worked on construction and then served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he married the love of his life, Judith Petrie, and moved to a new home in Windsor Locks. He then worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years before retiring. He loved what he did and always enjoyed telling stories of his work days right up to the end.
Farming was in his blood and every year Bob & Judy had a beautiful garden with the best tomatoes. But of all the things he could grow & cultivate, he was the "Master of Grass." He had the most beautifully dense, weed-free, thick gorgeous lawn! He was known among the kids' friends for yelling at any kid that dared to ride their bike across it.
Together, Bob and Judy built a life and a family and shared many wonderful years together until her passing on March 16, 2022. During their lives, they enjoyed traveling in the United States, especially to Ogunquit, Maine, and passed their love of Ogunquit on to their children and grandchildren. They also enjoyed several trips to the islands and roadtrips throughout Connecticut, New England and New York.
He is survived by his four children: David, Kim, Paul, and Lisa, his grandchildren: John, Michelle, Rob, Sarah, Rachel, Hannah and Leah, and step grandchildren Logan, Alex and Jessica, and one great granddaughter Olivia. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Shirley Ramisk and seven special nieces.
Besides Judy, he was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Linda, brother-in-law Frank Ramisk, sister-in-law Marilyn Dion, and nephews Lee and Gary.
In the end, he was cared for by his children and grandson Rob, and received excellent medical care from Hartford HealthCare nurses Jessica, Pam and Maria.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. To leave online condolences, please visit www.windsorlocksfuneralhome.com.
