Robert Ruhm Obituary

Born in New Hartford on May 18, 1946, he was the son of the late Robert and Janet Ruhm. He and his mother shared a special bond, in addition to sharing the same birthday. Bob graduated from UFA in 1964 and attended Utica College. A proud veteran of the United States Army, he honorably served his country from 1968-1970 with the 25th infantry in Vietnam. On June 8, 1988, he married Maureen Levine.
Bob was dedicated to his career as a police officer for the Oneida County Sheriff's Department from 1980 to 2008 when he retired. During his tenure, he served on patrol, performed as a dog handler with his faithful companion, Corporal, worked as an undercover narcotics cop, and lastly, he was a lieutenant and division commander at the Oneida County Court House. He received the NYS Deputy of the Year in 1989.
He was a member of the New Hartford American Legion Post #1376. Also, Bob was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his wife. Being a devoted animal lover, he enjoyed time with his dogs, Corporal, Indy, Gus, Honey, and most recently, Jasper.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 35 years, Maureen; his son, Robert Ruhm, IV of Georgia; his siblings, Gordon Ruhm of Utica and Allison Jones of New Hartford; and his sisters-in-law, Patricia (Chris) Liuzzo of Sand Lake, NY and Kathleen Slattery of Stillwater, NY. In addition, he leaves several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his nephew, Jack Jones; and his brother-in-law, Jack Jones.
Per Bob's wishes there will be no services or calling hours. Arrangements are with the Mark C. Bentz Funeral Service, Inc., New Hartford. To express sympathy, go to www.bentzfuneralhomes.com.
