Robert J. "Bob" Schmit

Robert James Schmit, "Bob", age 83, of Prior Lake, MN, formerly of Shakopee, MN, entered eternal life on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.
Bob was born in Prior Lake on August 31, 1941, the son of Anton and Gertrude (Murphy) Schmit. He married Dixie Haney on September 7, 1963, at Church of St. Mary in Shakopee.
Bob was the Director of Environmental Services at area nursing homes and then worked for the City of Shakopee in environmental services. He was also a volunteer on the Shakopee Fire Department.
When he was younger, he played mixed couples softball with Dixie, and they enjoyed snowmobiling together and trips to Florida. He enjoyed deer hunting and fishing, and watching WWE wrestling. His dogs were always important to him, but most of all he loved his family and spending time with them.
Bob is survived by his wife, Dixie; daughters and son, Dina (Jeff) Menke, Kelley (Denny) Ennenga, Scott (Kathy) Schmit, and Shawna Schmit; grandchildren, Derek Menke, Lindsay (Jeff) Sweazey, and Mackensie (Gordo) Kappers, Bryan (Annika) Gustafson and Karley (Adam) Zapata, Krystal (Ben) Fairbanks, Cassie Schmit, Tony (Chelsea) Schmit, Matt (Alyssa) Schmit, Joey (Kristine) Schmit, and Colin Schmit, Courtney Theis, Spencer Theis (fiancée, Nia Lake), Logan (Ashley) Theis, and Conor Doyle; 33 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Robert Schneider; many nieces and nephews, and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Gertrude; siblings, Cyril (Dottie) Schmit, Roland (Juanita) Schmit, Aldene (Earl) Pepper, Patricia Schmit, and Eileen Schmit; sister-in-law, Char Schneider.
Visitation Monday, January 20, 2025, from 10-11 AM; followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM, all at Church of St. Mary, 535 Lewis St. South, Shakopee. Interment Catholic Cemetery, Shakopee.
