Robert C. Schoonmaker, a cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away on May 30, 2025, at the age of 84, in Old Bridge, NJ. Born on July 20, 1940, in Hancock, NY, Robert's life journey was marked by devotion to his family, service to his country, and a dedicated work ethic.
Robert was a proud veteran who bravely serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1961, Robert's commitment to his nation continued long after his honorable discharge, with the values and lessons learned becoming a guiding force throughout his life. Following his military service, he moved to the Bergen County area and later made his home in Old Bridge, where he resided for the last 50 years.
Robert worked diligently at the Raritan Steel Mill for 25 years. His work not only provided for his family but also built a foundation of perseverance and integrity that he instilled in those around him.
Robert was a man who reveled in life's simple pleasures. An unwavering New York Giants fan, he found joy in the highs and lows that come with true sports fandom. Yet, it was the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren, that brought him the greatest happiness. These moments, filled with love, laughter, and shared experiences, are the memories that will be treasured by those who knew him best.
He leaves behind a loving family: his wife of 57 years, Leslie Schoonmaker of Old Bridge, NJ; his daughters, Lisa Spade and her husband, Bill, of Colts Neck, NJ, and Kelly McMillian of Atlanta, Georgia; and his grandchildren, Brianna, Jordan, Michael, and Stephen
