Mark Schoonmaker

Mark Schoonmaker of Montgomery, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Montefiore St. Luke's Hospital in Newburgh, NY. He was 72 years old.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 38 years, Susan L Argenio-Schoonmaker and his sister, Linda L Schoonmaker and her wife, Susan M Ash of Carolina Shores, North Carolina, His niece Tracy Ann Tartaglia and great niece Gianna Tartaglia.

Born in Cornwall on May 7th 1953, he is the son of the late DuBois and Jean Schoonmaker.

Mark graduated from Cornwall High School in 1971 and went on to join the United States Air Force. After serving on active duty here and abroad as an Air Craft Metals Technician, Mark continued his service as a welder with 105th Airlift Wing stationed at Stewart Air National Guard Base in Newburgh, NY. He retired from service in June of 1998.

Mark's life was built on love, hard work and sacrifice. He was always willing to help anyone in need, never hesitating to lend a hand. He enjoyed refinishing furniture, hiking, gardening and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys play football. He loved making patterns in the lawn with his Zero Turn (which he single-handedly brought back to life) earbuds and headphones on. You never knew what the front and back lawns would look like at any given week.

He was also an avid reader and loved doing his daily newspaper crossword puzzles. Star Trek and Star Wars were his secret passion. " The Swartz, The Swartz."

At Mark's request, there will be no formal service.

A Flag Folding and Presentation ceremony will be held at The DiDonato Funeral Service, Inc., Marlboro, NY on Wednesday August 13th at 2pm.
