Donald Gene Schoonmaker, age 73, of Greenville, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 27, 2025. Born May 31, 1952 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Don was the son of Finley and Ilene (Losinger) Schoonmaker.
A proud veteran, Don served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, with assignments in the Philippines and Okinawa. The discipline and camaraderie of the Corps stayed with him throughout his life.
An avid outdoorsman, Don found joy in hunting, fishing, as well as tending to his garden. At home, he loved woodworking, and his craftsmanship can be found in the details he added around the house. He cherished time spent at his mango farm in the Philippines and held deep affection for his community of family and friends there.
He is survived by his loving wife, Arsenia; his children, Markiel Gene Schoonmaker and Consalasion Ilene Schoonmaker; and his grandchildren, Skye, Arsenia, and Lincoln. Don is also survived by his siblings Marsha Porter, Joan Hughes, Paula (Bill) Splitstone, Joseph (Dawn) Schoonmaker, Pamela Schoonmaker, Alma Katherine Terrill, and Lila (Daniel) Hodges; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Steven; and his sister, Linda VanSplinter.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, November 1, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at the K.E. Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs.
Don will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his quiet generosity, and the steady hands that built and repaired so much more than wood - he shaped places where loved ones could gather, laugh, and be at home.
