Robert "Bob" Sherman Shanaberger of Farmville VA passed peacefully on August 24, 2024. Son of the late Frank W. Shanaberger Sr. and Irene White Shanaberger, Bob was born September 23rd, 1929, in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1946, he relocated to Amelia VA, where two years later, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Ann Brandt Shanaberger. They married in 1951 and have enjoyed the many blessings of the family and legacy they built together over their inspiring 72 years of marriage.In 1949, Bob began working in his father's business before joining the United States Air Force in 1950. He was stationed in Texas for the duration of his military service, where he specialized in the maintenance, repair, and operation of B-25 & T-28 aircraft.Bob served in the Korean War, and ever since the completion of his service in 1954, he remained a proud veteran who held a continuous membership with Post 32 of the American Legion for 70 years. He was a member of the Farmville-Prince Edward Historical Society and long-time member of the Farmville United Methodist Church.Upon his return home from the military, he rejoined his father, Frank Sr. and brothers, Jim and Frank Jr. in running the family business. In 1960, he and his brother, Frank Jr. became co-owners and partners in the continued operations of Shanaberger and Sons in Farmville VA.During his time as owner of the family business, Bob's knowledge and experience of engines and outdoor power equipment were passed down through multiple generations of sons, daughters, nephews, and grandchildren.His legacy lives on through all who learned from him and all who were loved by him. He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild dearly. They were his pride and joy, and his love was reciprocated by each of them.He is survived by wife Carolyn Ann Brandt Shanaberger; brother Samuel Shanaberger of Sarasota FL; sons Steven Shanaberger (Sandy) of Reidsville NC, Jeff Shanaberger of Farmville VA, and Gary Shanaberger of Altavista, VA as well as daughter Jeanne Hayden of Farmville VA. and son-in-law Douglas Farley of Rice, VA. He is also survived by grandchildren: Shay Farley, Tiffany Capati, Adrian Hayden, Mark Farley, Kirsten Irby, Derek Shanaberger, Kara Stultz, Kyle Shanaberger, Leah Reed, and Caleb Shanaberger. Great grandchildren: Zoe and Brandt Farley; Jaden, Kiley, and Roman Capati; Porter and Elias Reed; Evan, Jonah, and Grant Stultz; Brynn and Garrett Shanaberger; Hayden and Silas Irby, and great-great-grandchild, Brooklyn Capati. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Sr. and Irene Shanaberger; brothers James, Frank, and Paul Shanaberger; his sister Virginia Hutchens, and his daughter Shelly Farley.The family extends a special thank you to his caregivers Roberta Carter, Kari Rockwell, Debbie Carwile, Jolene Eicher and Christine Wright.Funeral arrangements are being handled by Puckett Funeral Home in Farmville, VA. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 29th. Family visitation will be held at 10 am on Thursday, followed by the funeral service at 11 am. The internment will immediately follow the service and will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice VA, with full military honors by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Farmville United Methodist Church, the Prince Edward County Rescue Squad, or the American Legion, Post 32.
