Bob was born in New Iberia, LA and at a very young age it was undeniable that he would rather be outside than inside. Fishing and hunting became a large part of his free time. By trade he was an excellent machinist and the sugarcane industry was a part of his life from birth. He always put his family first, loved his wife of fifty-nine years and took great care of his children. If you needed him on the weekend always check the camp in Grand Isle first because that’s more than likely where you would find him. Bob retired with forty-two years of service at M.A. Patout Sugar Mill in Patoutville, LA he was known throughout the Sugar Industry in Louisiana.
He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty nine years, Rose Spera Smith; his son, Robby Smith and his wife, Wendy, his son in law Eric J. Broussard, his brother, Mike Smith an his wife; Dee. Bob is also survived by his grandchildren; Vance M. Broussard, Kyle M. Broussard, Craig A. Broussard, Harrison J. Smith and Ellie Marie Smith. His great grandchildren, Audrey, Brooks, Max, Lily, Nora and Eli Broussard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eleanor Ruth Dent Smith and George Michael Smith, Jr., his daughter, Karen A. Broussard.
The family would like to give a special Thanks to his care givers, Ada Minnick, Cynthia Lee, Connie Minnick, Helen Moore and Odellia Harrison for all the care they gave Bob during his illness.
