The family requests that visitation be observed from 11:00am until 1:00pm with the funeral service beginning at 1:00pm.
Preston was born on June 6, 1944. Growing up in Abbeville, he was known for his adventurous spirit and many achievements. He attended Mount Carmel School in Abbeville and graduated from De La Salle High School in New Orleans in 1962. While there, he pursued his passion for pole vaulting and distinguished himself as a first-place medalist.
He then attended Spring Hill College in Mobile, Alabama, graduating in May of 1966. Following his undergraduate studies, he attended Tulane University Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor in May of 1969. He then returned home to Abbeville to practice law alongside his father, Frank Summers. Among the moments he treasured most was the honor of administering the oath when his father was sworn in as Chief Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court.
During this time, Preston also proudly served in the Louisiana Army National Guard from August of 1969 until his honorable discharge in August of 1975.
Preston was the second oldest child of Frank and Beverly Summers. He was a proud and devoted brother to Frank, Susan, Jim, Will, and Missie.
He is survived by his son Preston M. Summers Jr. (Krystal) and his daughter Mary F. Summers, M.D., as well as his beloved grandchildren Ainsley, John-Preston, Phillip, and Knox each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Preston will be remembered for his intellect, his gift for humor and his connection to the land he cherished. His greatest happiness was found outdoors planting trees and improving his property. He believed in sharing his “heaven on earth” with loved ones, spending countless hours in the outdoors alongside his children and grandchildren.
He is lovingly missed by his son, his daughter, and all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the land he loved and the lives he touched.
