Robert Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Muffley Funeral Home Inc. on Dec. 31, 2025.
Robert Franklin Smith, age 80, of San Jon, New Mexico, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. A rosary will be recited on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 10:15 A.M. with a memorial mass to follow, St. Anne's Catholic Church, 306 W. High Street, Tucumcari, NM, where Father Cemeron Degani will officiate. Burial to follow at the Anniston Cemetery in New Mexico. Honorable pallbearers will include Jonathan Brashear, Brandon Nolen, Patrick Kilgore, Braxton Bamber, Chris Molyneaux, Pat Kilgore, Colton Nolen, and Austin Bayes.
Robert found joy in the simple things-working the land, camping, and unwinding with a game of FreeCell or solitaire while watching his favorite western and war documentaries. He had a love for travel and an even greater love of good food, but his greatest happiness came from time spent with his wife and the life they built together, resulting in a large and loving family. Above all, Robert cherished his farm and the equipment that kept it running, a testament to his hardworking spirit and deep connection to the land. His life was shaped by his strong faith in God and never missed an opportunity to share his love for God and the deep unwavering love he had for his family. Robert will always be remembered for his gentle soul, kind heart, and his constant desire to help others, no matter what the circumstance, and his inability to know a stranger.
Survivors include his spouse Marlene Smith of the home, five children: Beth Gardner, Sandi Molyneaux, Both of San Jon, NM, Pam Bayes of Clovis, NM, Patty Kilgore (Pat) of Cache, OK, Jesse Smith (Christy) of Rocky Ford, CO. His siblings Noreen Henderson (Jack), Mary Ann Dominguez (Ernie) both of Tucumcari, NM, John Smith (Connie) of Lubbock, TX, nineteen grandchildren and thirty-two great grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; Reuben Smith and Eileen Smith, four brothers; Jude Smith, R.J. Smith, Patrick Smith and David Smith.
