It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Kreswell Smith, affectionately known as "Buddy," who departed this life on Friday, January 30th, 2026, at the age of 95. Buddy was born in Tifton, GA, on Tuesday, August 19th, 1930, to the late Watson Smith and Eldora Davis Smith. He was a cherished resident of Blakely, GA, where he lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family, community, and faith.
Retiring from Arlington Oil Mill, many will remember Buddy for his time as a Disc Jockey at WBBK, where he hosted a country show from 6-8 AM each morning, earning him the nickname "Country Boy", he was also the News Director for the radio station. But most will remember Buddy for his time at Stan's Auto, he had his chair there in the front lobby. He loved his Georgia Bulldogs and enjoyed following the games and keeping scores on the wall beside his chair, he was also an avid golfer.
Buddy was a proud Army veteran who honorably served his country during the Korean War, which is where he met his lovely wife Dorothy. His commitment to service extended beyond his military duty, as he was an active and devoted member of the Blakely First Methodist Church. He found joy and fellowship in the Men's Bible Class and lent his voice to the Men's Choir, enriching the spiritual life of his community.
Buddy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dorothy Jean Rush Smith, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Griffin Gleaton; great-granddaughter, Emma Grace Konetzni; grandson-in-law, Kyle Konetzni; and brother, Gene Story Smith.
Buddy is survived by his children, Bobbie Jean Gleaton and Stan Smith (Terrie) of Blakely. Grandchildren, Mandy Gleaton Konetzni, Chad Gleaton (Pelu), Josh Gleaton, Travis Smith (Samantha), Payton Smith (Morgan), and Patrick Smith (Erin). Great Granchildren, Jacob, Colin, Annelise, Abigail, Nikolas, Cason, Jaxon, Emerson and Briggs. Brother in Law, David Anderson and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Buddy's life will be celebrated with funeral services on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 2 PM at the Blakely First Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Blakely Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev Tucker Lewis and Rev Jerry Murkerson will officiate.
