Died: April 25, 2023 in Park Ridge, IL
Robert Steven Stavrakas, lovingly known as Steve, passed away peacefully in Park Ridge, IL at 94. Steve lived a long and fulfilling life leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness and dedication to his family and community.
Steve was born May 25, 1928 to Peter and Mary Stavrakas, who predeceased him. He was a proud veteran who served with honor during the Korean War and as a member of the IL National Guard.
Steve attended NIU for his bachelor's and University of Northern Colorado for his Master's degree. A lifelong educator, he devoted his life to helping others. He began his career as a math and science teacher in Northlake, IL. He later became a principal, served on the board of education, and as the director of special education services in Arlington Heights.
Steve was a kind, humble loving family man who cherished his 69-year marriage to Marianna Stavrakas (née Cortez), whom he lovingly referred to as his better half. Steve was a loving father to two children, Steve (Cheryl) and Cathy, and a beloved grandfather to Kent, Alexis, Grant and Madison.
In his free time, Steve loved fishing, reading, and playing cards with friends. He was involved in community-service organizations, and his contributions were felt by many.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 3 at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church at 1300 W. Crescent Ave., at 10a.m. A memorial service and on-site luncheon follow.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Legion, Shriner's Hospital or Honor Flight Chicago, organizations close to Steve's heart.
