Robert “Bobby” L. Stevens, Jr., age 80, of Meriden, CT, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024.
Bobby was born on January 16, 1944 in Norfolk, VA to the late Robert Sr. and Helena (Carrozza) Stevens. He graduated from Lyman High School in Wallingford, CT.
Robert was a decorated career U.S. Veteran. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force and then re-enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed in the U.S., did two tours in Vietnam, South Korea and Germany. He traveled several European countries extensively before getting married in Germany. During his 20-year military career, he earned several medals, most notably The Bronze Star. Robert was honorably discharged in 1986 with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was an excellent singer, a great photographer and an avid reader. After retiring from the military, he wrote a short story about his life titled “The Brass Duck.”
He is survived by two children, daughter, Nicole Ballingham, son, Michael S. Stevens and his former wife, Anna Stevens, all of Germany. He is also survived by two sisters, Kathleen D. Stevens and Doreen E. Parker, both of Southington, sister-in-law, Jill Stevens of CO and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bobby was predeceased by his brother, Major Howard P. Stevens, also a 20-year U.S. Veteran who predeceased him earlier this year on February 22, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bobby’s memory may be made to the CT Humane Society ( https://cthumane.org/) or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2025 at the State Veteran’s Cemetery Columbarium, 317 Bow Ln., Middletown, CT.
