Robert Joseph Sweeney passed away peacefully in Rye, NY at the age of 94 on September 11, 2025, with his family by his side. Born April 8, 1931, to Joseph Woods Sweeney and Helen Devlin Sweeney in New York, NY. Bob grew up in Larchmont, NY, attended Iona Grammar School and graduated from the New Hampton School in New Hampshire. He ran track at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA and received a BS in Political Science in 1953. After returning to the New York area, Bob received a Master of Science in Education from Fordham University and taught for 30 years in Port Chester, NY where he could leverage his love of history.

He met Margaret "Peggy" Toohy of Rye, NY, and they were married in 1958. They enjoyed 66 wonderful years living in Rye together. Bob is survived by his wife Peggy, his four children: John (Linda) of Concord, MA; Katharine of Rye, NY; Margaret of Rye, NY; and Eileen of Houston, TX along with three grandchildren: John C., Theodore R., and Anna R. Sweeney. Bob was predeceased by his elder brother Joseph, Jr. and his parents.

A wake will be held at the Graham Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 23 from 4pm - 7pm and a funeral mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection in Rye on September 24 at 10am. Burial will be private.
