Robert "Bob" Michael Taylor, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 1, 2025, at the Hospice of Hope at Adams County Regional Medical Center, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on January 13, 1942, in Blackpool, England, Bob was the beloved son of the late Clarence Taylor and Monica (Blakey) Taylor. He served proudly in the British Army as a communications specialist, dedicating 17 years to duty before moving to the United States in 1977. Bob was immensely proud to become a U.S. citizen in April 1985.
A man of brilliance and determination, Bob had a remarkable career that spanned the globe. He worked at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena and with NASA in Washington, D.C. He served as a U.S. Representative to the International Telecommunication Union and spent a decade as Chairman of the international technical study group for Science Services. Later, he followed his passion for travel as a cruise consultant-and he found joy in farming alongside his beloved wife, Shayla.
Bob lived life to the fullest and embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm and heart. He coached women's soccer, started several youth soccer leagues and was a district commissioner in California. He inspired young athletes with his encouragement and love of the game. He was an avid golfer, a decorated ballroom dancer whose medal-winning moves lit up the floor, and a fearless rally car racer with a taste for adventure. Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a steadfast friend. His intelligence and sense of humor left an impression on everyone he met. Bob had a brilliant mind, saw a lot of the world, spoke a number of languages, and could learn anything.
Bob is survived by his wife of 28 years, Shayla Taylor, whom he married on April 12, 1997; four children, Carly (Darren) Lindsay, Kevin (Ester) Taylor, Simon Taylor, and Andrew (Amber) Taylor; four grandchildren, Colin (Stacey) Taylor, Faye (Luke) Norman, Brittany Taylor, and Andrew Thor Quinn; a great grandson, Kobe Taylor, and one sister. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, and special friends, Bob and Thelma Hoffman.
Celebration of his life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bob's name to the Hospice of Hope Ohio Inpatient Center, 230 Medical Center Dr. 2nd Floor, Seaman, OH 45679.
