SSG Robert Thibeault (US Army Retired), 84, of Havelock, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at his home with his loved ones by his side.
A funeral service honoring Robert’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 2nd at Munden Funeral Home in Havelock, officiated by Chaplain Jeremy Slagle. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Robert was born on June 17, 1941, in Brunswick, Maine, to the late Joseph and Jeanne Thibeault. Robert answered the call to serve his country with honor and courage. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army Special Forces, where his bravery earned him the prestigious Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After his honorable retirement, he remained deeply connected to his Military Order of the Purple Heart and the local VFW Post 7315 in Havelock.
Robert had a love for life and a generous heart for others. He loved woodworking, fishing with his family, and never missed a chance to get on the dance floor. A dedicated community volunteer, he selflessly gave his time building wheelchair ramps for veterans and those in need. Robert also sponsored a local T-ball team in Havelock, always believing in giving back. His time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren was just the icing on the cake for him. Whether teaching them to fish, sharing stories from his service, or simply enjoying a quiet afternoon together, he was a constant source of love and support. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Those left to treasure his memory are his loving wife, Pam Thibeault of the home; daughters, Darlene Thibeault, Emily Paley (Andy) of Havelock, NC; brother, Henry Thibeault (Lois); stepdaughter, Kimberly Barber of Havelock, NC; stepsons, Dale Bishop of Havelock, NC, Ronald Bishop (Jordan) of Greensboro, NC, Kenny Bishop (Jennifer) of Havelock, NC; grandchildren, Cory Paley, Jacob Barber, Noah Martin, Tyler Barber, Freddy Barber, Logan Barber, Mason Culpepper, Dezmon Bishop, August Bishop, River Bishop, and Konnor Bishop; and great-grandchildren, Skyler Krise, Lailah Barber, Kaylynn Barber, Paisley Barber, T.J. Barber, Forrest Barber, Oakley Barber, Weston Martin, and Colby Barber.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, George and Jerry Thibeault.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pruitt Health Hospice 810 Kennedy Ave., New Bern, NC 28560 or the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 639, 5413-B Backlick Rd., Springfield, VA 22151-3960.
