Robert G Thistle

Robert G Thistle, 77, of Canton, passed away Thursday, October 9th, at Aultman Hospital. Born in Somerville, Massachusetts on November 17, 1947, a son of the late Gordan and Barbara (Larabee) Thistle. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his former wife Jeanne Mandigo and his Aunt Myrtle. Robert served his country honorably in the United States Air Force, where he worked in artillery for six years. His service reflected the same values he carried throughout his life - loyalty, reliability, and a steadfast commitment to those around him. A true outdoorsman, Robert found joy in hunting, fishing, and simply spending time outside. Whether it was walking through the woods with his son or enjoying a cigar on the back porch, nature was his peace. Known for riding his bike through any kind of weather, including snowstorms, he showed his unmatched dedication and reliability every single day. Family was Robert's greatest pride. He was not only a loving father but also the best coach and cheerleader his children could have ever asked for. From little league baseball to volunteer football, Robert poured his heart into supporting young athletes and helping them grow both on and off the field. His positive influence and infectious spirit left a lasting mark on every team he touched. Robert's impact extended far beyond his family. He was a beloved part of the Phillips Exeter Academy community, where he was affectionately known as "Bubba." His kindness, humor, and hard work earned him the love and respect of everyone he met. The Academy ensured there was always a seat for him on the team bus - a testament to how deeply he was cherished. Although he has not been apart of Phillips Exeter Academy for over two decades, everybody there still knows and loves him. Those who knew Robert will remember his jokes, big heart, and the way he could make anyone smile. A loyal Boston Red Sox fan, he admired Mike Greenwell and rarely missed a game. Above all, he will be remembered as a man who cared deeply for others, lived life with purpose, and left every place brighter than he found it. Survived by 2 sons Robert (Cyndi) Mandigo, Erik (Shawna) Mandigo; daughter Roberta Mummert; 3 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; as well as many other family members and friends.
