Robert Timothius (The Tjoe Liong), age 84, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, at Edward Hospital in
Naperville, IL. He was born on January 3, 1941, in Singapore. Shortly after his birth, war broke out, and he moved to Jakarta, Indonesia, with his mother and older sister, Telly, who passed away three years ago.
Robert's childhood was filled with resilience and love. A mischievous yet kind-hearted boy, he loved playing marbles but always put his family first. Raised by a single mother, he helped her sell cookies, learning the values of hard work and devotion at an early age. Despite life's challenges, he embraced every moment with joy, a smile, and a song in his heart. His love for music and writing led him to exchange letters with pen pals, a passion that would eventually lead him to the love of his life, Dainny. In 1971, they married and built a life together filled with love, laughter, and unwavering companionship.
Robert's children were his number one priority. He always ensured they were happy and was incredibly welcoming to their friends. To many of their closest friends, Robert and Dainny became second parents, offering warmth, wisdom, and a sense of home. He loved spending time with his family, whether playing chess with Marcel, enjoying a game of badminton with his colleagues, or simply gathering together to share stories and laughter.
Robert was an accomplished Procurement Director for 30 years before retiring. After retiring, he and Dainny moved to the U.S. in June 2008 to be closer to Elaine and help take care of his twin grandsons, Sevahn and Sajan. Being a grandfather brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Robert was a man of deep kindness, boundless love, and gentle wisdom. He was the heart of his family, always ready with a warm embrace, a listening ear, and words of encouragement. He is survived by his devoted wife, Dainny Timothius; his loving daughter, Elaine Anggraini Timothius aka. Elaine Massner; his son, Marcel Timothius; his son-in-law, Craig Massner; his daughter-in-law, Sherliana Christie; and his cherished grandchildren, Sevahn Kael Massner, Sajan Kief Massner, and Jonathan Richie Timothius. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tay Cheong An and Anggur Murdjaja.
Robert's legacy is one of love, generosity, and joy. He will be profoundly missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
