William A. "Bill" Hurt

William A. Hurt, "Bill", age 76, a resident of Naperville, IL since 1981, passed away February 19, 2026 at Meadowbrook Manor of Naperville. He was born on May 1, 1949 in Berwyn, IL.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Patricia (nee Schmitt); his loving children, Bill (Amy) Hurt of Naperville, IL and Amanda Hurt of Naperville, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Holly and Emma Hurt; his sisters, Sharyn (the late Chuck) Gunderson and Jean Hurt; his sisters-in-law, Dorothy (the late Ken) Russell and Barbara (Russ) Hengels; his numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Frances Hurt; his sister, Shirley (the late George) Nelson; his sisters-in-law, Rita (the late Ken) Wiley, Marybeth Schmitt, Katie Schmitt.

Bill grew up in Riverside, Illinois, and was a proud graduate of Riverside Brookfield High School. He went on to attend Western Illinois University before beginning a distinguished career in law enforcement. Bill first served as a police officer in Bellwood, Illinois, and later dedicated 25 years to the Naperville Police Department, retiring in 2007.

An avid golfer, Bill was a longtime member of the Village Greens Men's Club for more than 30 years. He also loved to travel the world and was always ready to embark on a new adventure. Above all, Bill cherished his family and the time they spent together.

For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Bill's life, memorial donations may be directed to the PGA Reach Foundation, NPD Foundation or the Alzheimer's Foundation.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 3, from 4:00 until 8:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. A private family inurnment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL at a later date.
