Robert Trombley Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Family Life Funeral Homes - Pickford (formerly Galer FH) on Mar. 19, 2026.
Robert Harvey Trombley, age 82, of Cedarville, Michigan, died on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, at Straits Area Senior Living Community in St. Ignace, Michigan. He was born on March 26, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, the second oldest of four children, with two sisters and a brother. His father worked as a film booker for Columbia Pictures in the Detroit office, and his mother was a devoted homemaker.

As a youngster, Bob found mischief around every corner. Once, he pulled a fire alarm on a city street just to see what would happen, an act that led to a memorable talk with his uncle, who was a Fire Chief. Bob attended Catholic elementary school for eight years and later graduated from Denby Public High School. As an adult, he lived life on his own terms. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the excitement of city nightlife. Bob remained single, valuing his independence while enjoying the companionship of others. He later joined the United States Navy, where he traveled the world. His service took him through the South Pacific, the Atlantic, and ports along the Mediterranean. During the Vietnam War, Bob served abroad a naval vessel, remaining at sea while supporting operations. Following his honorable discharge, Bob returned to Detroit and began a career with the Detroit Fire Department. He dedicated twenty-five years to the department and became a well-respected member of his firehouse where he eventually became the firehouse Chief.

Always drawn to the idea of a quieter life, Bob retired early and moved north to the Upper Peninsula, settling in Cedarville, where he built a home along the shores of Lake Huron. There, he continued to enjoy hunting and fishing and became a member of the NRA and the Les Cheneaux Sportsmen's Club. Though he traveled from time to time, eventually his passport found its way into his 'junk' drawer, collecting dust. He was always happiest returning home to Cedarville.

Bob enjoyed evenings playing euchre and spending time with close friends at the local pub. In his later years, as his health declined, he continued to do things his own way, leaving behind a legacy of 'enjoying life the way he wanted'.

Bob is survived by his brother, Barry (Micheline)Trombley; and sister, Denise (Larry) Demankowski.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Evelyn (Cook) Trombley.

Bob's final resting place will be at Cedar Cemetery in Cedarville, Michigan.
