Robert VanBuskirk Obituary
Bob grew up in Pekin and attended Pekin High School. He then attended Illinois Central College where he met the love of his life, Mary Catherine (Meyer) VanBuskirk. They married in May of 1975 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Peoria, Illinois. They were married 50 wonderful years. Together they built an amazing family, raising four children – Christina Aguilar, Jennifer (Kevin) Etzel, James VanBuskirk and Timothy VanBuskirk. Bob was also an amazing Grandpa to Aureanna and Manuel Aguilar.
Surviving are his wife, children, grandchildren, cousins and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death are his parents, brother Michael R. VanBuskirk and his sister Barbara Darling.
Bob was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Church. He was a dedicated employee of Schnucks over 50 years. In his down time, he loved watching basketball and baseball games and occasional football games. He was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs. He also loved reading about the history of America. Bob loved watching classic movies and listening to music. He was an avid Star Trek fan as well as a Star Wars fan. Most of all, Bob was a loving husband, father and grandpa.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Peoria, IL, with visitation from 9:30 AM – 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery in West Peoria, IL.
A small luncheon will follow the burial back at St. Vincent de Paul School Hall.
In memory of Robert J. "Bob" VanBuskirk, the family requests Mass offerings to be made at your local parish.
