Robert Edward Vanecek ("Bob"), age 83, passed away with his loving wife by his side, at Josie Harper Hospice House on April 12, 2025.
Bob was born on February 9, 1942 to the late Charles and Grace (Soar) Vanecek in Council Bluffs. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1960. One year after graduation, Bob was involved in a serious car accident that left him gravely injured. His recovery was grueling but his determination remained strong and unscathed. Although the accident left Bob physically handicapped for the remainder of his life, he never complained or allowed this to slow him down. Bob had a brilliant mind, and could repair almost anything. He had a knack for rebuilding motors, fixing cars, and rewiring appliances. Bob spent most of his professional career as a journeyman electrician working on motors. He was a proud member of the IBEW Local 22 Union for nearly 55 years, and most days could be spotted wearing one of his favorite tan IBEW baseball hats.
Bob had many hobbies including working outside on his acreage, cross-country driving trips with his wife, fishing, gardening, Iris Club, and repairing old tractors, motors, and any other mechanical treasures he could find at an auction.
Bob was a loyal and dear friend. He immeasurably loved his family and dogs, and cherished his grandkids. Many would describe him as a quiet, gentle giant with an exceptional memory and heart of gold. He appreciated all things nature, especially the birds that visited the many feeders he hung just outside of his family room window. Watching Nascar and football brought Bob immense joy. His favorite football teams were the Green Bay Packers and whatever team happened to be playing the Huskers that week.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Connie Vanecek; sons, Tim (Jen) Vanecek and Troy (Jillian) Vanecek; grandchildren, Tony Vanecek, Joely Vanecek, and Charlie Vanecek; siblings, Charles (Betty, deceased) Vanecek, Judy (Vernon, deceased) Lake, and Jim (Sue) Vanecek; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Sunday, April 27, 2025. In celebration of the wonderful man that Bob was, guests will be encouraged to share their fond memories of him at his service. The family will direct memorials.
